AErchus was created in 1998-99 as the world setting for playtesting The Chimera RPG. The setting also represents our first attempts at global mapping with the then new Campaign Cartographer 2 software.
Vaguely Earth-like (and embarrassingly derivative), AErchus presents a host of adventure opportunities, from the mediaeval kingdoms of the Northern Realms to the dangerous and lawless city-states of the Wild Coast to the sun-baked deserts of the S'hara Desert to the unexplored continents of Aquitane and Azamon.
The Chimera playtesting campaign took place on the Northern Aerchelon sub-continent, in an area known as the Seven Shires. Initially, the focus was on clearing out goblin enclaves, but soon the PCs ran afoul of the Ebon Cabal and the setting took on a more political and decidedly low-fantasy aspect which saw the party spend much of its time between the settlements of Trobridge and Arnley, all detailed in the gazetteer below.
