This has nothing to do with Chimera or Welsh Piper, but the Classic Traveller CD-ROM I ordered from Far Future Enterprises arrived today. The obvious result is that I’m super-pleased, mostly because Traveller is a game I always wanted to get into, but had no one to play it with, and really no idea where to start.
But there are other happy asides to today’s arrival in the post. To whit:
- So far as I know, the entire Classic Traveller canon is on this disc, and in fairly well-scanned PDFs. Best part: with shipping, the CD cost $40 USD.
- I ordered this in mid-October, and when it didn’t show up by the end of the month, I emailed FFE to confirm shipment. Marc Miller himself took the time to check into it, concluded that it probably got lost in the mail, and promptly dropped another disc in the post, no muss, no fuss. Excellent customer service.
- I’m discovering that the Traveller community is very helpful in guiding newbies like me. Special Holla of Appreciation to Jeff Reints, who very helpfully suggested I might check out the Classic Traveller CD when I asked which version a neophyte should start with. Without his advice, I could have easily squandered many hours and dollars on eBay.
I’m picking through the CD’s content now, justifying a short break from Chimera. If you’re looking to check out Traveller (or back up your hard copies), and bargains make you happy, visit Far Future Enterprises.
